The walking trail “from Kalić to kalić” connects the villages of Blažići and Mladenići, winding through forested areas and over hills that offer unexpected views, leading to hidden ponds—kalići—which represent the region’s natural heritage.
Upon entering the trail in the village of Blažići, your attention is drawn to a pond with an impressive dry-stone wall edge. Once an indispensable source of water for the local people and their livestock, today it serves the forest’s wildlife. A closer look at the rock reveals the year 1891 carved into it. The edge of the pond was built using the dry-stone construction technique, stacking stones without mortar—known as building “dry.” This traditional skill has earned a place on UNESCO’s list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
This trail reveals a landscape that gently rises and falls, winds around sinkholes, opens up into clearings, then slips back into the cool shade of small groves. The trail is easy and suitable for a leisurely one-hour walk or bike ride. The nearby villages, tucked behind hills, offer a constant sense of safety while never disturbing the profound peace that draws the walker into a story of times past—times that may have been harder, but were perhaps more serene.
