Now it’s there, now it isn’t lake.
Ponikve is a small place behind Bakar where one could see a unique karstic phenomenon called now it’s there, now it isn’t lake which is very rare not only in Croatia but much wider.
In fact, during strong rainy periods confluent and ground waters make a lake in the karstic valey, making Ponikve a place on the the lake in a matter of hours. This phenomenon lasts for a short period of time because this lake waters are returned to underground flows of Bakar’s well , with the first bura winds.
